Integrative Training in the Pharmacological Sciences
The IPSTP is an interdisciplinary training program, available to Ph.D. students in 7 Ph.D. programs, Pharmacology & Toxicology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Material Science, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Neuroscience, and Physiology. Students will focus on study in two unique areas of research, in vivo pharmacology approaches and drug discovery. Trainees choose a research mentor from among 45 training faculty in the seven participating programs. The program prepares graduate students for a successful research career as a pharmacological science professional. State of the art research facilities are available to all trainees. Core facilities include those for: Flow Cytometry, Bioinformatics, DNA and protein synthesis and sequencing, Genomics, Mass Spectrometry, Proteomics and Electron & Confocal Microscopy.
Plant Biotechnology for Health and Sustainability
The Plant Biotechnology for Health and Sustainability (PBHS) Graduate Training Program was created in 2014 to provide new training and career opportunities for predoctoral candidates at MSU who are pursuing research related to plant biotechnology and chemical engineering. The program aims to provide students from different graduate programs with a common core of courses and experiences that will enrich their predoctoral training at Michigan State University. We train students in critical thinking and analysis of the primary literature across a broad range of topics so that they can build upon the best current thinking in their research. Students in the program are trained to appreciate and perform translational research and to collaborate with scientists with diverse backgrounds in biological, computational, engineering and physical sciences. They are taught to evaluate the ethical and legal consequences of their actions. Finally, trainees are provided with a broad range of career options and encourage them to operate across traditional boundaries.
Multidisciplinary Training in Environmental Toxicology
The IIT is proud to offer a multi-disciplinary graduate program in Environmental and Integrative Toxicological Sciences (EITS) that provides training in toxicology to masters and doctoral students as well as postdoctoral fellows. Our doctoral (PhD) program offers students extensive research training in a specific basic science discipline as well as toxicology. Trainees acquire a broad base of knowledge through a program of courses, seminars, workshops and scientific meetings as well as by becoming active members of a research laboratory and the campus-wide toxicology community. This training prepares students in a highly collaborative and interactive environment to become leaders in the discipline of toxicology with a focus on solving current problems and preventing future threats to human, animal and environmental health.
Reproductive and Developmental Sciences Training Program (RDSTP)
This program provides training for both Doctoral candidates and Postdoctoral trainees.
Research training is in the laboratory of any of our 14 Faculty Trainers. Our trainers are world-renowned for their research, and offer research opportunities in the latest cutting-edge research, using a variety of experimental model systems.
Doctoral candidates will pursue degrees through one of the six Biomedical Sciences (BMS) programs (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Molecular Genetics, Genetics, Pharmacology & Toxicology, and Physiology).
Additional graduate programs that are also available include Animal Science and Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology. Dual degree candidates (MD/PhD and DO/PhD) also participate.
